A set of miniature Dino-Riders trading cards known as “Teks” were released in the
Philippines. These are rather obscure with a single card being included in packages
of “Mr. Fruit” ice candy, which is a popular candy in the Philippines. Each card
depicted the box art for the particular dinosaur on the front and a short write-up
on the back referring to the “Dino-Warrior”. The cards are about the same size as
the small baseball cards that are often included in Cracker Jack boxes. It appears
that a total of 21 cards were produced (all of the Series 1 and Series 2 dinosaurs
(except for the Brontosaurus) and none of the Series 3 or Ice-Age releases). The
cards are made of cheap card stock and although the print quality isn’t great and
there are misspellings and typos in some of the write-ups, these definitely have
an old fashioned novelty/collectable appeal to them. What makes collecting the full
set particularly difficult is that the candy packages did not have any markings on
them to indicate that a Dino-Riders card would be included. Instead, each package
included a randomly inserted mystery card that could be from Dino-Riders or from
any number of other licensed properties. Below are scans of the fronts and backs
of all the teks for your viewing pleasure.
