The Dino-Riders cartoons were released in VHS format in many countries. Surprisingly,
only four tapes were released in the United States. The first two tapes contained
the first and second episodes, respectively, and included commercials for the Dino-Riders
toys and other Tyco products such as “Zero-Gravity Cliffhangers” and remote control
cars. The third tape contained “The Ice-Age Adventure” episode, which was released
in conjunction with the release of the Ice-Age toys and was exclusive to the U.S.
The fourth tape also contained the first episode of the cartoon and was released
later on under the Marvel Video label. Aside from these tapes, the only way that
people in the U.S. could view the other episodes was by watching the Saturday morning
cartoons as part of the Marvel Action Universe.
In contrast to the limited number of VHS tapes that were released in the U.S., an
absolute plethora of VHS tapes were released in Europe and in various other countries
throughout the world in PAL and other video formats. Many of these tapes contained
a large variety of episodes from the cartoon and were often dubbed in the language
of the applicable local country. Many different distributors had the publishing rights
to the cartoon in the various countries.
Aside from the VHS tapes, there was also a Laser Disc release and, more recently,
a few DVD releases. Pictured on this page is my painstaking documentation of all
known commercial releases in VHS and other video formats. If you know of any others,
please e-mail me. I hope you enjoy the video rental store theme!
